Water filtration
Our water filtration products cater for different varieties of contaminated water. Most commonly, users are looking for chlorine removal filters, other products are available for the removal of iron, manganese removal, sediment filtration and other chemical removal.
Water filtration for domestic water supplies, or water supplies used for domestic purposes only, can simply and effectively have their drinking water source treated with an under sink water filtration system. As the name implies, these self-install water filtration systems are located underneath the main sink in the house and provide a dedicated drinking water tap on the sink top. A variety of water filters are available to go inside the filter housing to remove such contaminants as grit, chlorine, chemicals, heavy metals, bad taste, odour, minerals (for extremely hard water areas) and nitrates. Filtration of hard water is only recommended when the water is to be used in the kettle or for cooking. It is recommended to not persistently drink softened water, as the minerals which make it hard in the first place are actually very important to the human body. The only reason a water softener should be used is to stop the build up of limescale in kettles and saucepans.
For water supplies having an acidic pH level, pH correction filtration is possible to bring it back to a more neutral level, thus reducing the affects which can include blue/green/turquoise staining of sinks/baths/basins/showers. The danger of acidic water is that although not dangerous, if left untreated over time it eats away from the insides of pipe work, causing pin size holes to develop and thus eventually causing damage to property.
Private water supplies are susceptible to containing iron and manganese. Such water can initially appear fine with no visible indication of their presence, however when the water containing the iron and/or manganese is able to come into contact with air, combining with oxygen the iron oxidises forming iron oxide (better known as rust). Orange/brown particles are then visible in the body of water. Iron and manganese treatment is carried out using the same type of system. Iron removal is possible at a pre-tap water filtration stage using an under sink water filtration system fitted with an iron removal cartridge.
Many water supplies whose source is that of a borehole or a private well can suffer from grit or other hard particles being present. Water filtration of these sources is relatively straight forward, using one of many simple wound filter cartridges available to remove particles down to just a few microns in size. An under sink water filter system can be installed to removal dirt at a point where drinking water is regularly obtained, say for instance at the kitchen sink.
Chlorine in water can often result in a foul odour or bad taste, making drinking water dissatisfying. Chlorine is added to mains water to kill off certain germs and bacteria, but only in small quantities, unlike public swimming pools who use it in larger quantities. Despite the low quantity used, it still emits a smell and causes a bad taste. Carbon filter cartridges are available that remove both these side affects from the water, making it a pleasure to drink. There is no need to buy expensive water filtration cartridges to go into the jug every couple of months (the jug which you have to remember to fill up when it runs low). Instead every 6 months you simply replace the filter cartridge in the filter housing and then either your whole house is covered or your dedicated drinking water tap is (depending on installation type which can be whole of house or just dedicated under sink).
