Drinking Water

Bottled drinking waterThousands of litres of bottled drinking water are sold daily, but is it just a big con? Bottling the water, packaging, shipping and retailer markup, all contribute to the final selling price of something that is essentially free and all around us. So is it the convenience of a bottle that people like, or is the decision to pay for one of lifes most essential elements, which they can get at just a fraction of the cost from a tap, purely down to taste? Whatever the reason, there is an alternative.

Under sink water filters remove the bad taste and odours which put some people off drinking tap water, leaving your mains water tasting just like the bottled stuff.

Covering 71% of the Earth's surface in the form of oceans and polar ice caps, water is also found in clouds, rivers, freshwater aquifers and lakes. It seems like there is no shortage of water in the world, especially as in most cases we can just turn on a tap and fill up a glass. But that for many is just what they don't do. Discolouration, grit, dirt, chemicals, smell and other unpleasantries put people off drinking water from the tap and so they either don't drink much of it or they buy it bottled.

Point of use water filter tapMains water is currently charged at around £1.30 per cubic metre (1000 litres). From a convenience store or supermarket the cost of buying just 2 litres of bottled water is usually £1.30 . At that rate, 1000 litres of bottled water would cost around £600.

Save yourself a packet and install your own under sink water filter to fill up your bottles and glasses with chemical free, odour free and great tasing water now.

There is a far cheaper alternative to buying bottled drinking water though. Self install, point of use water taps are available which have an attached filter cartridge (hidden under-sink) that removes any or all of the impurities that put people off drinking water from the tap. They provide convenience, don't require the users to remember to fill up a jug and save substantial amounts of money compared to buying bottled drinking water.

Depending on what it is that affects your water supply, there is a cartridge to suit. Carbon filters remove bad taste & smell, whereas a water softener filter remove heavy minerals which cause limescale build up (the heater element of your kettle is one place you'll see evidence of this).

Drinking water is essential to survival. Many don't drink enough of it (the recommended amount is 2 litres per day), simply gleaning enough of it to get by from food, juices, tea & coffee and fruit. In these forms though water does not contribute to the body's functionality as well as it would if it was drunk on its own. Salts and sugars both act as dehydrators and so any benefit of the water found in the product are usually in part off-set by the dehydrating affect of other ingredients.

The convenience of having a dedicated drinking water tap encourages people to drink pure, fresh tasting water - just like from a bottle. Whether it is part of a detox diet, a healthy lifestyle or simply forcing that 2 litres a day into the body, point of use drinking water taps are easy to install and don't cost a fortune. With one installed you can fill and refill your own bottles for the gym or trips out and about knowing that you are only paying for the small amount of mains water it takes. Remember, that £1.00 for a bottled water in a shop may be convenient, but with your own point of use filtered water tap you could refill your bottle almost 1,000 times for the same amount - and not just for yourself either, remember your children, friends and family too.
